Fediversity

Introduction

Fediversity is an effort to bring easy-to-use, budget-conscious hosted cloud services to individuals and institutions. We belief that digital autonomy is of paramount importance for our ability to innovate and adapt in a continuously changing world.

Our digital autonomy has been severely hampered by the dependence on multinational 'hi-tech' conglomerates commonly know as Bigtech. Their insidious business models and practices have stifled competition, led to price gouging in certain markets and concerns about the misuse of private data. It even goes as far as influencing elections and undermining our democracies.

We need to free ourselves, our institutions, our companies, our societies and our economies from the claws of Bigtech. We need to regain our digital autonomy and with it, our ability to innovate and adapt. With Fediversity, we want to contribute to this by offering you the means to free yourselves from the shackles of Bigtech.

Our offer

Built upon the solid foundations of NixOS we offer blueprints to 'automagically' create, configure and maintain a set of interoperable open-source software application services. Using these blueprints, individuals and service provider organisations are able to quickly offer a compelling set of alternative services to the more well-known Bigtech platform services.

By virtue of the use of open standards, it is even possible to connect our open-source based services with certain Bigtech offerings. Bringing you the best of both worlds. It also provides you with the possibility for bespoke solid substitutes and a tiered exit strategy to make a deliberate decision to move away from Bigtech whenever you want.

Fediversity partners & funding

The Fediversity project consist of four partners: the Open Internet Discourse Foundation (OID), NLNet, Nordunet & Tweag. Fediversity is funded by the European Commission's Next Generation Internet initiative.
