i just revisited this change when i forgot to use nix develop in addition to nix-shell panel - hoping to at one point get unified shells to not have to deal with such layered shells anymore

Yup, we need to fix npins dependencies for them to finally encompass NixOps4, or get rid of NixOps4 (and any other dependency that npins cannot handle). Until we do that, the project will remain in that half-broken state.

(gotta love nix develop --command nix-shell panel, though :p)
